Graduate Admissions

Application Process:

We accept applications to our graduate program on a rolling basis throughout the year. If you wish to apply for departmental or graduate assistantship, the deadline for receipt of all materials is March 1st. At the bottom of this page are links to download both types of applications. There are two applications that you will need to complete if you wish to apply to the graduate program in kinesiology and be considered for a Departmental (DA) or Graduate Assistantship (GA).  Complete the forms and send them via regular mail to:

Prerequisites:

Prerequisites include a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree with a 24-hour concentration in kinesiology or its equivalent from an accredited college or university. All applicants are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).

Applicants who have a concentration in the sciences outside of kinesiology will also be considered. An undergraduate GPA of 3.0 is required; however, those with a lower GPA who show promise of being able to successfully complete the graduate program will be admitted conditionally.

All applicants are required to submit Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores. Applicants should have a combined verbal and quantitative GRE score of 1000 with a minimum of 450 on the verbal portion.

Students whose native language is other than English should have a TOEFL score of at least 250.

Graduate Assistantships:

The Kinesiology Department offers two levels of support for full-time graduate students:

  • The Departmental Assistantship (DA) provides tuition and a stipend in return for a 20-hour per week work commitment carrying out duties assigned by the department.
  • The Graduate Assistantship (GA) provides a tuition waiver in return for a 10-hour per week commitment.

Duties for both the DA and GA include teaching in the activity program, serving as a TA for major classes, working as a research assistant, and a variety of other activities on and off-campus.

Note:  In addition to the application form for assistantships, we recommend that students submit a copy of their resume showing all their academic and professional activity related to their intended area of study.
